WORKBASED FOR WORKPLACES

Your Hub for Work-Base Learning

workbasED is Huntsville’s most collaborative work-based learning initiative. Launched in 2021 through intentional collaboration between the nonprofit organization Advanced Manufacturing Innovation and Integration Center (AMIIC) and Spur Staffing, workbasED introduces a system for employers, schools, nonprofits, government and economic development agencies to participate in the direct delivery of a talent pipeline to North Alabama’s most rapidly evolving industries. 


workbasED Employer Advantage: Creating a talent pipeline for employers that works 


workbasED is sustained through the support and partnership of employers that use Spur’s proprietary software to securely recruit, place, manage, pay and assess student workers from workbasED education partners in exchange for a percentage-based fee. In addition to the service provided by its software, Spur provides a dedicated account manager for workbasED employer partners to leverage as a single point of contact in support of their needs. workbasED employers may also access additional training and advice on how to design engaging employment opportunities for students, which enhances their ability to retrain students as employees after graduation while building upon their reputation as a favored employer in the market.

HEALTHY & SAFE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

Ensure work environment is appropriate for students including safety and HR policies specific to WBL programs.

COACHING & MENTORSHIP

Assign a workplace coach/mentor to provide continuous feedback to students during their WBL assignment.

COMPENSATE STUDENT WORKERS

It's part of the real world experience + it amplifies the value our students bring to the experience. Payroll & billing are included with workbasED.

PERFORMANCE FEEDBACK

Provide the final student performance review to assist Educators in assigning a final grade for the WBL assignment.

Q: WHO SETS THE PAY RATE FOR STUDENT WORKERS?

Workplaces have the autonomy to set the pay rate. However, we do recommend starting at $10.00/HR.

Q: HOW MANY STUDENT WORKERS CAN BE REQUESTED?

Workplaces determine the number of students. workbasED then works with our school partners to recruit and place the students.
